Old Fashioned Treacle Pancakes with Golden Syrup Butter and Golden Apples

Ingredients

Makes: 12

2 cups (300g) plain flour
3 tsps baking powder
1 tbsps CSR Treacle
1 tbsp CSR Caster Sugar
2 eggs
1¾ cups (330ml) milk
60g butter, melted, cooled

Golden Syrup Butter
100g butter, softened
3 tbsps CSR Golden Syrup
½ tsp ground cinnamon

Golden apples
1 tbsp butter
1kg (about 5) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored & cut into large chunks
3 tbsps CSR Golden Syrup
¼ cup (60ml) water
2 tsps lemon juice

Olive oil spray
extra CSR Golden Syrup, for drizzling

Method

1. Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl. Whisk treacle, caster sugar, eggs, milk and butter in a jug. Add to flour mixture, whisking until smooth. Set aside for 30 mins to rest.

2. Cinnamon butter: whip butter with an electric mixer until soft and pale. Add golden syrup and cinnamon and beat a further minute.

3. Golden apples: melt butter in a frying pan, add apples and golden syrup and cook until apples are golden. Add water and lemon juice and cook a further 5 mins or until apples are tender.

4. Heat a small non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Spray with oil. Pour in a ¼ cup of batter to make each pancake. Cook pancakes for 2 mins or until bubbles appear on pancake surface. Turn pancakes and cook a further 30 secs or until cooked through. Transfer to clean tea towel and wrap. Repeat with remaining batter.

5. Serve hot pancakes topped with Golden Syrup Butter and Golden Apples. Drizzle with extra golden syrup.

Comments

Treacle replaces vanilla extract to give the pancakes a wonderful depth of flavour and gorgeous rich caramel colour.

CSR Caster Sugar Caster Sugar

Ingredients: cane sugar

Caster sugar dissolves easily so it is ideal for meringues, puddings, jellies and cake mixes. When used in baking, the smaller sugar crystals caramelise evenly so it produces a fine golden colour in the finished product.
Being a superfine white sugar it can be used as a dry topping, often sprinkled over fruits or baked goods as a light dusting finish.

CSR Original Golden Syrup Original Golden Syrup

Ingredients: cane sugar, water

CSR Original Golden Syrup is a liquid gold.

The rich, dark blend of cane syrups combine to produce the traditional and distinctive flavour for which CSR is famous.

The perfect baking ingredient for adding moisture, colour and flavour. Gingernuts, Brandy Snaps and Anzac Biscuits are just a few examples of how golden syrup can be used to produce a deliciously rich, chewy result, making it a favourite with Australian families for generations.

CSR Original Golden Syrup is available in an easy-to-use jar, which features a screw top lid, making it easy to hold and convenient to store.

CSR Treacle Treacle

Ingredients: cane sugar, water

Treacle has a richer colour than golden syrup, and a stronger, slightly bitter flavour.

It provides the strong sweet flavour necessary for many baking and confectionery recipes. A couple of spoonfuls of rich sticky treacle will add a distinctive colour and taste to your rich dark brown cakes and puddings.
